Viola Space/Tokyo International Viola Competition

Unique concert series "Viola Space" featuring viola works launched in 1992. "Admiration for viola" "Introduction of master works and new works for viola" and "education for young violists" are three main motivations for the Viola Space. We present concerts and open master classes annually. In 2009, we hold the 1st Tokyo International Viola Competition for one week with great success. It is the very first competition solely for viola in the Asian region. In May 2012, we will organize the 2nd Tokyo international Viola Competition, which will be planned to be held every three years. These strong messages from Viola Space have spread in Asia rapidly and contributed to expand activities of violists not only in Japan but also in China, Taiwan and Korea.
